Geikie Gorge

9 July

We hung around for a while this morning at our lovely boab campsite, before moving on toward Fitzroy Crossing.  Most of today was on bitumen, a bit of a (boring) novelty :)

This was a bigger place than I’d imagined, quite spread out and a lot of houses.  It's very much an aboriginal town and again quite a few seemed to be sitting around on the grass in the middle of the day with not much to do.  Down by the Crossing Inn is the picture theatre in a tin shed, very quaint!  There was to be a movie showing there tonight.

We had a good look around town and then went out to Geikie Gorge NP to have lunch and spend time before the 3pm gorge cruise.

This is the first cruise we’ve done and is the best (only?) way to see Geikie Gorge as all the colours and formations are below the cliffs along the Fitzroy River.  These cliffs are made of limestone and there are some amazing formations, textures, colours etc.  It was a great cruise!  Every other gorge we've seen on foot so this was something different.
